REP. SWEENEY LANDS COVETED APPOINTMENT
TO HOMELAND SECURITY SUBCOMMITTEE

Only New York representative named to panel charged with funding critical new department WASHINGTON- Representative John E. Sweeney (R-Clifton Park) has landed a coveted spot on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, an important new panel responsible for funding the new Department of Homeland Security.

The announcement was made today by House Appropriations Committee Chairman C.W. "Bill" Young (R-FL). Sweeney called the appointment an "awesome responsibility" and believes the post will give him an opportunity to achieve important goals when it comes to delivering security to the American public.

"There's no greater responsibility facing our Nation right now than the task of protecting our Nation's homeland," said Sweeney."Whether it's making our ports and borders in New York State safer, or improving our ability to collect and interpret intelligence, this appointment provides me the opportunity to make a positive difference in the everyday lives of my constituents."
